On June 17th,
2010,
an
international education delegation
from Saginaw, Michigan,
visiting MOE, participating in Seminar on International Education &
Exchange Practices for K-12. There were 15 people in this
delegation
including college professors,
principals,
teachers of special education, social studies, art in middle school
and elementary schools etc..
This seminar was divided into three
sessions according to different themes. In the beginning, director
general of BICER, Dr. Liu, Ching-Jen gave welcoming remarks, while
Dr. Stephen Barbus, dean of SVSU, remarked on behalf of American
representative. After the introduction to each other, there were
several presentations about the current international education and
exchange practices in Taiwan.
Chiang, Hui-chen, principal of Paul Hsu
High School, who represented SSEi program office introducing
“Secondary School Exchange International” program, Principal Chiang
presented how secondary schools in Taiwan have implemented so far,
along with an introduction of resourceful websites and the
international exchange window.
In addition to SSEi program, local
education bureau from Taipei City, Taipei County and Tainan City
presented their current international education status and
characteristics of their representative schools as well. Moreover,
Wu, Tsuey-Ling, the director of Feng-hsin Senior High School
presented iEARN Taiwan and introduced the online program exchange.

The third session was Tea Time and
Bilateral Exchange. In both sides of the meeting room,
representatives from SSEi group, iEARN Taiwan, local education
bureau group showed their brochures and felt free to discuss with
American representatives. At shared feedback time, American
educators asked questions willingly, even asked about the
application progress, subsidies and implementation of SSEi program.
Principal Chiang shared her experiences about how to prepare the
exchange program, including connection between schools, precede
program, savings from students and so on.
In the end, Dr. Yang, Chang-Yu, director
of department of elementary education, MOE, summarized for this
seminar, leaving an impressive experience to broaden our
international education. For sure, it is not the end, but a new
start to the cooperation between Michigan and Taiwan. |
